Root canal treatment is a procedure that involves removing the infected pulp inside the tooth and cleaning and filling the tooth. However, sometimes the treatment is not successful and problems such as inflammation or abscess formation can occur. In these cases, the root canal treatment may need to be renewed, or what is called “retreatment”. Retreatment is a treatment that may be the only option to save the tooth and is usually performed when
- If there is inflammation or abscess under the root canal treated tooth,
- In case of tooth pain,
- In cases where channel fillings are poorly and unhealthily done.
How to Renew Root Canal Treatment?
Renewal root canal treatment involves a similar process to the previous root canal treatment. The procedure usually consists of two stages:
- First Session: In the first session, the existing root canal filling materials are carefully removed. At this stage, special medications are applied to destroy the bacteria and eliminate the infection, and the tooth is sealed with a temporary filling material. These medications are left on the tooth for 7-10 days.
- Second Session: At the end of the period, the medication is removed and the root canals of the tooth are cleaned again. The canals are then properly filled. If the infection has not completely disappeared, the procedure can be repeated several times.
