Endochrone restorations are an innovative method for the treatment of endodontically treated teeth with high crown damage. In traditional treatment methods, these teeth are treated with full crown restorations applied over the intra-canal postcor. However, with the development of adhesive systems, endochrone restorations offer an alternative solution for endodontically treated teeth with excessive material loss. Endochrone restorations are fabricated as a single piece and are supported by the pulp chamber and cavity walls. This provides both macromechanical and micromechanical retention and makes the application process relatively simple. It also offers the advantages that the number of sessions can be shorter and there is less removal of intact tooth tissue during preparation. Endochrone restorations can be applied to calcified, occluded and crooked-rooted teeth and can also be used in patients with low occlusal spacing.
Advantages of Endochrone Restorations
- Less removal of intact tooth tissue during preparation
- A more economical solution
- Less session duration
- A simpler treatment process
- Applicable to teeth with short canals
- Can be used on teeth with crooked roots
- Effective in calcified canals
- Applicable in cases where the interocclusal distance is insufficient
- Less plaque involvement because they are supragingival restorations
