The natural color of teeth darkens with years and external factors.
With the teeth whitening process, which can be done in the office or at home, the teeth are lightened by 2-10 tones, resulting in a satisfactory whitening and a beautiful smile. Bleaching must be applied under professional control.
There are 2 types of tooth discoloration.
1-Internal discoloration: These are discolorations that are embedded in the tooth and cannot be removed by brushing. Structural disorders that occur during the formation of teeth are also included in this class. Whitening is very successful in such cases.
2-External staining: These are discolorations that adhere to the tooth surface from certain foods, staining substances such as cigarettes, tea and coffee. It is mostly possible to get rid of these stains with tartar cleaning and professional brushing afterwards.
Different colorations require different treatments. For this reason, it is best to decide what type of application should be done together with our dentists.
How is bleaching performed?
Whitening is the process of removing discoloration in the structure of the teeth. There are currently two different methods of teeth whitening. The first of these is a method that the patient can apply on their own, the stages are as follows:
– The physician takes an oral impression and prepares thin rubber molds that you can wear on your teeth,
– The patient places the medicine in the special mold prepared for him/her and wears this mold on the teeth to be whitened for at least 6 – 8 hours a day (preferably while sleeping),
– The treatment is terminated in an average of 1 – 4 weeks.
The second method is whitening performed by a dentist in a clinic, which is carried out as follows:
– The bleaching medication is placed on the teeth by a dentist who has experience with this procedure.
– A white light source is shone on the affected tooth for a certain period of time.
– When the procedure is finished, the result is immediately visible.
Although both methods are effective, the choice depends on the degree of discoloration, how quickly the treatment is to be terminated and the opinion of the physician
Is it safe?
Yes!
According to research, teeth whitening is highly effective and safe if done under the supervision of your dentist. Teeth and gums are not damaged in any way.
Do teeth go back to the way they were after whitening?
Teeth will always be whiter than before. However, depending on patients’ habits and oral care, reinforcement treatment may be necessary.
What will I have to endure during treatment?
If you smoke, do not smoke while the rubber mold is in your mouth (applies to home bleaching). Mild cold and heat sensitivity that will disappear with the end of the treatment.
How long do whitened teeth stay white?
Teeth whitened with different bleaching methods remain white for a few years. However, this period varies from person to person. Eating and drinking habits, smoking and brushing habits affect the duration of teeth whitening.
It should be noted that bleaching may not always give you the whiteness you want. The whitening rate depends on the shade of your teeth before bleaching and varies from person to person. Therefore, you should discuss your expectations with your dentist beforehand.
