Fiber post is a treatment method used in cases of severe material loss or damage to teeth. Tooth enamel is the tooth tissue that bonds best to fillings, but in teeth with severe loss of material, the bonding surface of the filling may be insufficient and the filling may fall or break. In this case, the use of fiber post is important to strengthen the tooth structure and provide long-lasting restorations.

Fiber post strengthens the tooth structure by supporting the tooth root. The usage situation is as follows: Fiber post can be preferred if the tooth root is intact but the crown is destroyed, after root canal treatment in teeth with deep crown fractures, in deep caries that cannot be treated with filling or in teeth with severe material loss. It is also used in prosthetic infrastructure planned with support from bent teeth.

The application process requires the tooth to have a good root canal treatment first. Fiber post application is not possible in teeth that have not undergone root canal treatment. After root canal treatment, the area where the post will be placed is prepared; this is usually 2/3 of the root length. The cleaned area is washed with special solutions and isolated. If the post is to be prepared in the laboratory, an impression is taken and the post is produced together with the coating. If a fiber post is to be applied in the mouth, the post is placed and fixed in the cleaned area with binders. The upper filling, i.e. the core, is prepared and the post and core process is completed. If a crown is planned, the impression is taken and the prosthetic stages begin.

The advantages of fiber post are as follows: The fracture resistance of the tooth increases and it can function in the mouth for many years. If the root is intact, the restoration is completed without the need for extraction and the need for implants is reduced. In deep caries and fractures, the tooth gains a solid function due to tissue loss. The crown canal mouth is blocked and becomes more permanent. Fiber posts provide a strong abutment instead of extraction, especially as an alternative treatment for broken teeth.

Fiber post application requires more detailed and precise work than standard dental filling procedures. This process creates a solid infrastructure, making the tooth capable of carrying large loads and providing aesthetic and functional results.
